Chamber, ACEDC, Visitors Bureau have not taken a stance.
In the weeks following the Terry Madonna poll on the proposed Mason Dixon Resort & Casino in Cumberland Township, I asked the three major economic development agencies in Gettysburg if they planned to take a stance on the project.
The responses have not been enlightening.
In fact, all three groups reported that they have not taken a stance, and at least two agencies — the Gettysburg Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Gettysburg-Adams Chamber of Commerce — don’t plan to take a vote.
GCVB spokesman Carl Whitehill told me that his group’s board of directors voted in February “not to take a stance on the proposed casino,” so don’t expect anything out of them.
“We were approached by Mason Dixon to take a stance on the project,” noted Whitehill, adding that the GCVB board invited both Mason Dixon and No Casino Gettysburg to its February meeting to make presentations. Following the presentations, the board cast its vote.
Chamber of Commerce President Carrie Stuart informed me that her group has not been approached to take a stance on the project, and that “we will not be taking a stance at this point.”
Unlike those groups, Adams County Economic Development Corporation President Robin Fitzpatrick told me her group has been asked to take a stand, and that her board asked her to “write a letter.” She was unable to elaborate.
At this point, it’s silence from all three agencies.
What do you think?
Should these groups, which are all devoted to bettering Adams County’s economy, cast a vote on the Mason Dixon plans, and share their stance with the public?
Or should they remain quiet, and out of the spotlight?
Fire away, faithful blog readers.
